Frequently asked questions

Where are you located?

Washington, D.C.

Are you able to handle cases outside of Washington, D.C.?

The answer is: it depends. For business matters, we can provide counsel in nearly every state. For litigation, we can provide counsel so long as we co-counsel with an attorney local to your state. For more information, schedule a consultation.

Do you take referrals from other attorneys and/or contract work?

Absolutely. If your workload is overwhelming, we can support your firm through contractual or referral work for litigation or transactional services. We offer several services including motion drafting, discovery management, and contract review. Let’s set up a call to discuss co-counsel possibilities.

What is your approach to client relationships and communication?

The Russell Law Firm knows that each legal matter is the top priority for our clients. We strive to support our clients with ample communication and opportunity for questions. You are always in the driver’s seat of your case.

Will I have direct access to my attorney?

Yes – this is a cornerstone belief of The Russell Law Firm. Each client has the right to speak directly with the attorney of record on their case. You will have access to the attorney’s email and work phone number. The attorney will return your message or call as soon as reasonably possible.

How do you charge for your services?

It depends entirely on the type of case or work. For civil plaintiff work, we work entirely on a contingency basis – we do not get paid unless and until you win a settlement or verdict. With criminal cases and academic disciplinary proceedings, a retainer is required up front. Our team bills against that retainer for time and work utilized in development of that case. We offer flat fees for our fractional general counsel services and other transactional products.

What areas of law do you specialize in?

We specialize in criminal defense, civil claims, and business law. Our clients include businesses in need of legal advice and individuals seeking advocates to defend their rights and reputations. We also support organizations and causes in government affairs and policy consulting.
